Following a renovation of their existing home, the clients for Ferdi Studio were looking to make the most of their generous backyard by replacing the existing garage with a flexible secondary dwelling. The design explored the addition of a compact two-storey structure housing a garage, bathroom, home office, and multipurpose space above.

The upper floor was designed to function as a flexible retreat – a private entertaining space or future guest suite – with careful attention paid to maintaining backyard space and minimising visual impact from the street. The design included a concealed balcony, spiral stair, and ample integrated storage, balancing function with compact living.
